Travelogue #02: Phuket, bitches!

I found myself planning another holiday after the previous one to KL, and decided on Phuket. It was a beautiful place, and it's not hard to understand the lure it has on people. I have a colleague who goes over on a yearly basis. The moment we reached Patong area, I was in awe and immediately thought of buying a holiday home! That would be too far fetched but a girl can dream. Haha. We had a couple of mishaps, including missing the pick up for Simon Cabaret, thus forcing us to reschedule it altogether. Baaad, just trust your instincts and pick a tour at one of the stalls in Patong Town. We actually got the driver to recommend us something, but that didn't work out obviously! However, the islands were amaaazen and I couldn't stop taking pictures (evidently). Maya bay was beautiful, though it was littered with rubbish (and tourists). I hated the fact that I couldn't swim for a minute without coming across rubbish. Responsible tourists, please throw your rubbish at designated areas. Such a waste to see a polluted beach. Phi Phi Don had such a relaxed atmosphere, however the tight schedule of the island tour didn't permit us to stay longer. We made friends with a local driver who told us stories about his family and his life. I realized they were all quite hard working. oOOoH I loved their locally made coconut conditioner that I was forced to buy luggage space and dump 4 bottles of those in a big bag for check-in.

It was a great experience, one I wouldn't trade for any other, though I wish I had picked longer dates to explore other beaches.

NOW GO CLICK ON THAT 'BOOK FLIGHT' BUTTON.

Because I already did. Except, I'm on to other destinations. The only way to get over a holiday is to plan another one. Heeehee. See you for #03!

Soft Light

I anticipated the rain hence picking up this dress to wear on Saturday. Apparently it did not and I was left with perspiring madly the entire day. This dress is from Topshop and it felt a little 80's/90's with the sweater feel and the mix of fabrics. I waited weeks for this ASOS belt to arrive to pair it together. I really love the soft lighting in the pictures, and I've always thought that between 4pm - 6pm is the best time for pictures because of the sun's positioning. It kinda does make things glow.

Further aggravating the situation was going to Gardens by the Bay for some good ol' satay. Not a big fan of satay, but once in a while is fine. It's an open area dining, so imagine how hot and humid it was. The pasta stall made for a bad experience though. It's not so much of food, but rather the communication. I ended up with Turkish pizza with (broken) egg. It's a disappointment to go on Saturdays really, because the staff are trying to rush orders.

I digress.

I have been really busy with work, and I was left with hardly much time to even pick up a magazine to read. I do most of my reading on trains on the way back or to work. It's been really tiring, but I guess it does feel a little fulfilling/satisfying when you have a few motivations in mind. But, this weekend I finally got to rest and not report to work, (I drop by the office on Sundays sometimes) and just spend time doing things I want. Feels good. I'm not complaining about work because I am really grateful, after going through and knowing how tough it is to land a good job.

Good week, everyone. <3

The Carpenter & Cook via iPhone 5

I love cafe hopping, hidden-gems-uncovered Saturdays. I found one last Saturday. Carpenter & Cook along the secluded roads of Bukit Timah. It is really a lovely vintage-themed cafe, and also one which Radzi and I decided would be the best place to be in case of a zombie apocalypse (no thanks to Warm Bodies). The place literally has walls with sickles hanging on them! Also everything was on sale. And I do mean you can buy it and bring it home. Yeah, even the bathroom mirror.

We had Apple Cobbler cake and Banoffee. You would have noticed by now that I didn't take a picture of the banoffee. THAT'S BECAUSE WE ATE IT IN A FLASH. God, that thing was so good. I didn't believe it when people kept saying that Banoffee was good, I always get turned off by the thought of overpoweringly, sickeningly sweet (all thanks to a certain Flaming something once upon a time) coffee with banana and cream. Not until it landed on my table. In fact, the coffee taste was... subtle. There was a slight bitter after taste from the coffee, but the banana, toffee crust and cream combination was divine. In case you were wondering though, the Banoffee here isn't a wedge of pie, it's a small round pie by itself.

Midsummer's Peach tea. Yes.

Now I feel like having another one. Darn.

Going Green

Meet my new favorite blazer. The shade of green is just right and enough for spring. I'm scared to wash it in the machine because I'm afraid of it getting ruined. HAHA! I don't know if it's me, but whenever I put this pair of shoes, it makes me look short and chubz. I think it's the thick ankle strap. It certainly didn't look like it on the way to work in the morning. I hate train reflections. So misleading.

Work's been keeping me on my feet and I hardly have time to blog or even think about blogging. I guess month ends always gonna be busy. Whatever it is, am still grateful to get a job after knowing how unstable the working world is and how difficult it is to find a good one. It will be a rude shock to you when you enter the working world, as it was for me. But we all learn to deal, and I settled in, in the shortest amount of time. But I think importantly, you must have some kind of a motivation to keep you on the grind.

Right now, I'm thinking of clear blue waters and sandy beaches, with a great sunny weather of course.

So how? Can pass for a pin-up? :P

Great Sunday, everyone. Chocolate is the answer.

Miss Antoinette

Finally had the chance to wear this skirt out! Beautiful colours on a sunny day. I chose not to wear it last December/January because of the weather. A real shame to wear it out on gloomy days.

Anyway we paid a visit to the famed French cafe, Antoinette. We had desserts and the crepe was pretty big. We broke the rule of sharing a plate of desserts because we usually couldn'tt finish it by ourselves looking at the big portions. True enough, I couldn't finish mine. However, the Tahiti tea really smells like fresh baked cookies, that was my favourite part. Also loved how Antoinette was designed. Plush chairs and the colours sorta matched my skirt.

Been busy with work, and will continue to be so there might a slow down on updates. I wish I could even sit down and read a copy of Vogue or look through S/S '13. Guess I can only relax in June! Pretty excited for that!

A Leap of Faith

(Mango Eyelet Dress/Necklace from KL/Accessorize Chinoiserie Embroidered Clutch/Zara Flats)

With the exception of the last two, of these were shot on iPhone 5 again, I REALLY love the phone's camera. I got lazy to bring out Peaches, and we're not even talking a full blown bulky DSLR. Just a semi.

This dress served as a little surprise and a reminder to stop stashing away my new clothes deep into the drawer. I only discovered this nicely wrapped in a plastic bag, still untouched and as I last left it. When I put it on, then I remembered why I bought it. I love the fit. It's really hard to find a good fitting dress with structure and beautiful even on it's own. I like how it looks polished.

I digress.

I started this blog documenting the things I wear because I don't really like to see a good outfit go to waste and for something for me to look at when I am older (and hopefully not cringe at my younger self). I guess it serves as a journal, that I am merely sharing with you. It really is anybody's choice to have a look or not.

Also, I am SO excited to be able to blog another photologue/travelogue in early July!

Wimbly Lu via iPhone 5

This is what would greet you when you enter Wimbly Lu. The café has a cosy feel and always welcoming despite being packed with people. We had the luck of getting a seat near the end of the café, where the little patch of (artificial) grass were. THAT will officially be my spot.

I knew that I wanted to try something different when I entered the café, and indeed I did. I was.. skeptical at first, at the idea of chocolate cake with root beer. But I gave it a go anyway. I had no regrets ordering it at all! In fact, the portion was small, and it wasn't enough for the both of us.The faint root beer essence complimented the rich chocolate cake well. My only gripe is that they should have added a drop or two more of the essence. It is only noticeable at the first bite/taste. We had to leave early, and left any thoughts of second helpings for next time.

Mmm, Tuna Cheese Melts, wish I could have it everyday for breakfast.

Chocolate is the answer.
